-Organises 'Swacch Bharat Aviyan', Creates Awareness against 'Plastic Bags'
Rourkela/Susanta Behera : National Institute of Technology(NIT), Rourkela celebrated 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on Tuesday and organised a cleanliness drive to promote 'Swacch Bharat Aviyan' to make people aware about the advantages of cleanliness. Inaugurating the event Director of NIT, Rourkela Professor dr Animesh Biswas said, '' The father of the nation in his lifetime demonstrated and promoted cleanliness. Following his footsteps today NIT, Rourkela has also organised a cleanliness drive to make Rourkela Green and more beautiful''.
The director urged to renew our resolve to stand up for the values of Gandhian Philosophy and work for the prosperity of the nation. He took this opportunity to call upon every NITian to join the Swaccha Bharat Aviyan campaign committing towards 'Swacchata''. Professor Biswas said, '' This time we are creating awareness against the use of plastic bags. It's high time we should say no to plastic bags. In NIT we will try not to use the plastic bags''. Registrar dr Santosh Kumar Upadhyay said, ''''Cleanliness is Godliness '' had been the mantra of Mahatma Gandhi's life. We should follow his footsteps. We should keep our city clean and should make others understand about the importance of cleanliness'' said the Registrar. On the occasion, Massive Cleanliness drive was launched in sector-2 market complex, Atm chowk, Biju Pattanaik chowk, Rourkela club and German club area .
The NSS and NCC Volunteers along with the staff members made their commitment to keeping the campus neat and clean. A team consisting of Director, Registrar, students and staffs move toward sector-2 market complex for cleanliness drive. This NIT, Rourkela created awareness against the use of plastic bags. Holding placards and posters the students and staffs created awareness among the local people. The programme was organised under the supervision of Nodal Officers Professor Pabitra Mohan Khillar and Professor Swapan Kumar Karak under 'Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharata' initiative. In the end, nodal officer Swapan Kumar Karak offered the vote of thanks.
