Bhubaneswar, Jan. 5: The cyclonic storm ‘Pabuk’, positioned above the Gulf of Thailand, moved west-north-westwards at a speed of 17 km per hour and lay centrered over Andaman Sea and its neighbourhood, about 1800 km south-east of Gopalpur at 8.30 am on Saturday, according to the Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC), SOA Deemed to be University, here.

It was very likely to move west-north-westwards for some more time and then veer in a north-westerly direction to cross the Andaman Islands on the evening or night of January 6, Director of CEC, Dr. Sarat Chandra Sahu said.

The storm was likely to have a wind speed of 70 to 80 km per hour gusting up to 90 km per hour and then move north-north-west wards and recurve north-east wards towards the Myanmar coast and weaken gradually, he said.

Due to movement of western disturbance towards the east, there was possibility of light rain in the north Odisha districts between January 5 and 7. ‘Pabuk’ was not likely to impact the state, Dr. Sahu said adding night temperature might fall for the next three to four days.
