Rourkela: National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela has recently installed a state-of-the-art High-Performance Computing Cluster of 27 Nodes for high-end research purpose. It has a theoretical computational power of 40 TFLOPS. It caters to the ever-increasing demand for high-performance computing for various scientific and engineering research by using much cutting-edge software’s like Ansys, Fluent, NAMD, Matlab, OpenSees etc. This HPC is in addition to the already existing HPC of 36 nodes installed and running since 2012. The Data Center under Computer Center of NIT Rourkela houses this state-of-the-art high-performance computing system connected by a very high-speed network. There is an underlying job scheduler software by Altair known as PBS Pro which manages job submitted to job queues by multiple users.
On the other hand, Raman spectrometer has been installed in the physics laboratory of National Institute of Technology Rourkela to intensify research activity. Professor pitambar Mahanandia of Physics department said 'This will help in developing research activities more. The student community will be benefited from this. Its operation has already been started. It can be utilized for identification of materials like chemical bonds, phase, calculation of stress etc said Professor Mahanandia. Raman spectroscopy is a non-destructive vibrational spectroscopy technique to identify a material based on vibrational frequencies of the various atomic bonds in the materials. Raman spectrometer was inaugurated by the chairman of Board of governors DrSantrupt B. Mishra.
