Bengaluru boy Achintya Krishna top scores with 14 points in NBA Academy India's loss to BA 'C' team

Wednesday, July 18 : After a break from five-on-five competition yesterday, the NBA Academy teams returned to AIS on Wednesday with a slate of games scheduled against BA Prospects in the afternoon. The teams participated in morning pre-game walkthroughs before The NBA Global Academy, The NBA Academy Africa and The NBA Academy Latin America participated in a time management life skills session led by Adonal Foyle. The NBA Academy India and China teams then convened for an interactive session on communication.

Basketball Australia prospects arrived to AIS in the afternoon and took the court for team practices ahead of the evening games. Prior to the start of the exhibition games, the event opened up to dozens of NCAA coaches and personnel who flew into Canberra to scout the prospects participating in the camp. The first of five exhibition games then tipped off at 5 p.m.
 
The NBA Academy India vs. BA Prospects C
  • The BA Prospects C defeated The NBA Academy India 97-40. The BA Prospects C opened the first quarter with a 31-11 lead and didn’t look back, ending the game with four players in double figures, including Josh Stanwix (11 points), Joshua Gatbel-Kunen (19 points), Jarryd Hoppo (15 points) and Archie Woodhill (13 points). The NBA Academy India team was led by Riyanshu Negi who scored 10 points and Achintya Krishna who recorded a team-high 14 points. The NBA Academy India will return to the court tomorrowmorning for a game against BA Prospects D.  Box Score.
 
The NBA Academy China vs. BA Prospects D
  • BA Prospects D defeated The NBA Academy China 77-58. The NBA Academy China was down just six points after the first quarter before BA Prospects D scored 33 second quarter points to extend their lead to 26 by halftime. The NBA Academy China outscored BA Prospects D by seven in the second half, but it was not enough to climb back from the first half deficit. Kyle Bowen (Australia) led the way for BA Prospects D, recording a team-high 13 points and seven rebounds to go along with four assists and three blocks. The NBA Academy China received major contributions from their bench, which scored 45 points, including Lin Qi’s team-high 18 points.  The NBA Academy China moved to 1-1 on the week. Box Score.
 
The NBA Global Academy vs. BA Prospects E
  • The NBA Global Academy defeated BA Prospects E 65-50. The teams traded buckets throughout the first two quarters and headed into halftime knotted at 31. The NBA Global Academy held the BA Prospects E to just five third quarter points to draw a 10-point lead heading into the final quarter. The NBA Global Academy scored a game-high 19 fourth quarter points to extend their lead to 15 points by the end of the game. A key advantage for the Global Academy came on the glass, where they outrebounded their opponent by 16.  Alex Ducas (Australia) led the BA Prospects E with 13 points and 7 rebounds and Ryan Rapp (Australia) contributed 11 points off the bench. NBA Global Academy center Aly Khalifa (Egypt) and guard Biwali Bayles (Australia) each scored 15 points on a combined 14-20 from the field. The NBA Global Academy improved to 2-0 on the week. Box Score.
 
The NBA Academy Latin America vs. BA Prospects A
  • The NBA Academy Latin America defeated the BA Prospects A 72-51. After The NBA Academy Latin America jumped out to a 16-8 lead in the first quarter, the BA Prospects A rallied with a 20-point second quarter to go into halftime down just three. The NBA Academy Latin America exploded for a 21-point third quarter and outscored the BA Prospects A by 16 in the second half, finishing with 54 points in the paint and 24 points off turnovers. Kobe Williamson and Malek Malual scored 11 points each off the bench for the BA Prospects A. Juan Fernandez (Brazil) scored a game-high 17 points, while Jermaine Perez (Puerto Rico) and Jean Montero (Dominican Republic) chipped in 14 points and 13 points, respectively. The NBA Academy Latin America improved to 1-1 on the week. Box Score.
 
The NBA Academy Africa vs. BA Prospects B
  • The NBA Academy Africa defeated BA Prospects B 82-70. After a highly-competitive first two quarters filled with lead changes, The NBA Africa Academy entered the half up 36-34. The NBA Africa Academy extended their lead to nine points with one quarter remaining after scoring 21 points in the third quarter, including a three-pointer from Kurt-Curry Wegscheider (Central African Republic) as the shot clock expired with less than a minute to go. The BA Prospects B cut the deficit to one with five minutes remaining before The NBA Academy Africa pulled away to win by 12. Mojavee King scored a game-high 20 points for the BA Prospects B and Hunter Goodrick recorded an 18 point/15 rebound double-double. Ibou Badji (Senegal) turned in an impressive 17 point/11 rebound double-double to go along with four blocks and three steals. Three more players scored in double-figures for The NBA Academy Africa, including Wegscheider, Samuel Ariyibi (Nigeria) and Abdou Halil Barre (Benin). The NBA Academy Africa improved to 1-1 on the week. Box Score.
